Austell is a city in Cobb County, Georgia, situated approximately 18 miles from Atlanta. According to the US Census Bureau, Austell has a total area of 5.7 square miles, of which 0.18% is water.
The town is named after General Alfred Austell (1814-1881), founder of the Atlanta National Bank (later Wachovia Bank) in recognition for bringing major railways to the South.
Although Austell is largely surrounded by unincorporated Cobb County, there are several cities near Austell including: Mabletonwhich lies just over 3 miles to the East,Powder Springs which is about 4.5 miles to the Northwest, and Lithia Springs, which is 2.4 miles to the Southwest.
